Top French Fashion Designers

France, particularly Paris, has become the world's hub for high fashion. Top designers, celebrities and fashion enthusiasts flock this part of the world every season for Fashion Week. People who aspires a career in fashion and design have Paris in their list where they want to study or train. But France's contribution to the fashion world does not stop there, because some of the best designers in the world are French. Top designers like:

Pierre Cardin, born Pietro Cardin, was known for his avant-garde style and futuristic Space Age designs. As a designer, he prefers geometric shapes and motifs, usually ignoring the female form in the design. He introduced and popularized the "bubble dress" in 1954. Cardin was designated UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador in 1991 because of his contributions to humanity through his fashion lines. On 16 October 2009, he was also nominated as Goodwill Ambassador of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

Christian Dior was an influential French fashion designer and founder of one of the world's top fashion houses, Christian Dior. His fashion house, Christian Dior S.A., headquartered in Paris is responsible for high-fashion clothing producer and retailer Christian Dior Couture. This is a division of the whole House of Dior which designs and produces some of the world's most coveted haute couture, as well as luxury ready-to-wear fashion, menswear and accessories. Today, Dior operates about 160 boutiques worldwide with plans to open more in the coming years.

Jean-Paul Gaultier is a French haute couture fashion designer and host of television series Eurotrash. Some of the fashion lines influence by this genius include the Jean Paul Gaultier, Gaultier Paris, Jean's Paul Gaultier, Jean Paul Gaultier and Jean Paul Gaultier Argent. In 1988, a Junior Gaultier outfit was selected by Jeff Banks as the Dress of the Year.

Count Hubert James Marcel Taffin de Givenchy is the founder of world-class fashion house, The House of Givenchy in 1952. Givenchy's claim to fame includes being able to design most of Audrey Hepburns personal and professional wardrobe. He is also the designer for Jacqueline Kennedy.

Christian Marie Marc Lacroix is a high-end French fashion designer who founded the high-end fashion company of the same name. In 1987, he opened his own couture house and began putting out ready-to-wear in 1988 drawing inspiration from diverse cultures. Lacroix also launched jewelry, handbags, shoes, glasses, scarves and ties. By 1988, he opened boutiques within Paris, Arles, Aix-en-Provence, Toulouse, London, Geneva and Japan.
